What is indexable IDX? Well lets split this in two, Indexable & IDX.
What does Indexable mean:
‘Indexable’ means content that can be indexed by google. For example, you build a real estate website and it has 10 pages. One of google’s spiders comes along and takes a look at one of those pages. It stores that information about your page in it’s “cache’ and then holds this content in it’s “index” to be considered when trying to make a match for keywords that people are searching for at google. So in order for your real estate website to have a chance at showing up in search results, google has to be able to index your website’s content. (Astoundingly many agent websites make it very hard for search engines like google to index their content) .
What is IDX:
IDX or Internet Data Exchange is the process through which all cooperating Brokers agree to share their listings with each other, in return for being able to show other each other Broker’s listings on their site. In this way, your agent website can show every home listed for sale, by any agent, at any cooperating Broker.
So, Indexable IDX is the ability to not only show all cooperating Broker’s listings on your site but also enable your site to get the SEO credit for this information. This hasn’t always been the case. [ Read more about iframes vs non iframes here ]
Why Is Indexable IDX That Important
Indexable IDX is wonderful for Search Engine Optimization. SEO, is concerned with the generation of relevant content for a particular niche subject. The greater the volume of this relevant content, the more authorotative your site will appear to them. Indexable IDX offers huge content generation potential, without the agent being involved.
The chart shows the increase in indexed pages by google after adding Indexable IDX. This website was previously comprised of pages and news posts. It was a few years old, and the website owner had generated around 190 pages or posts that google were aware of. In a couple of weeks, since installing Indexable IDX, the number of pages that google credited this website jumped to 1040 pages.
These pages where all active listing detail pages. This type of content, featuring, street addresses, property features and town information are pretty close to perfect real estate website content. 850 pages were added to this site in two weeks, where it had take a few years to generate 190!
